Small bucolic beach, beautiful bougainvillea flowers, fishing boats, music in the evening, there is an atmosphere of serenity on the island of Goree. Go with the flow, lose yourself in the alleys and enjoy this magical place. The island of Goree is only 15 or 20 minutes from Dakar! Not only it’s a haven of peace to isolate yourself from the capital and find the peaceful atmosphere of the islands, but also a culturally rich site!
Visit Gorée Island and you’ll put feet where the largest population deportation in the history of Humanity took place. In four centuries, 16 million slaves were sold to join the plantations across the Atlantic. Coming from the slave markets of Nigeria, Benin, Angola or Gambia, many of them have passed through this small island off Dakar, which will then become the largest transit center in the entire AOF.
