If you were surprised to know that Rwanda has a beach, you are not the only one. Rubavu (also known as Gisenyi) is a waterfront town on the shores of Lake Kivu, one of Africa's most beautiful lakes. Only an hour from the Volcanoes National Park, Rubavu is a great place to relax after your adventures in the volcano region.
Rubavu, at 3 hours 30 minutes (and 157 km) from Kigali, marks the beginning of the 227-km-long Congo-Nile trail to Rusizi, and is full of cycling paths and hiking trails to satisfy all those who are looking for even more adventure. Rubavu is also known for its agrotourism experiences, with many tea and coffee plantations nearby. We will start our journey around 5 am from Kigali to the city of Rubavu, in the western province of Rwanda. The city of Gisenyi is near the town of Goma, across the border, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The city has a population of 404,278 in 2012.
NOTE: This activity can be booked starting from three people.
